State Tobacco Control Cell, Gandhinagar, Gujarat State

  • State Tobacco Control Cell was established at the Commissionerate of Health office, Gandhinagar, Gujarat with support from Government of India and WHO in the year 2008 to implement pilot project of the National Tobacco Control Programme. Additional Director – Public Health is the State Nodal Officer for Tobacco Control.
  • The State Steering Committee was formed through a Government Resolution no. PFA-102008-GOI-24-JH dated 8th September 2008 by the Gujarat government. The State Steering Committee comprises of Principal Secretary – Public Health as the chairman; State Nodal Officer as the Member Secretary and representatives from other departments.
  • The District Steering Committees were formed in all the districts of Gujarat.
  • The New head of Account was opened to deposit the fine amount.

In the association with Government of Gujarat, currently we are working on three different projects.

  1. National Tobacco Control Programme
  2. Smoke Free Ahmedabad & Gandhinagar
  3. Strengthening of Tobacco control Efforts through innovative Partnerships and Strategies
